Senate Concurrent Resolution 585

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING BERT JENKINS UPON BEING INDUCTED INTO THE MISSISSIPPI SPORTS HALL OF FAME.

WHEREAS, Bert Jenkins has been selected for induction into the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame; and

WHEREAS, Bert Jenkins is considered to be one of the greatest high school coaches in the history of Mississippi athletics; and

WHEREAS, Bert Jenkins is the all-time winningest high school basketball coach in Mississippi with a phenomenal 866 victories and only 180 losses; and

WHEREAS, Bert Jenkins' legendary teams won 7 state titles, 13 Big Eight Championships and numerous district crowns; and

WHEREAS, Bert Jenkins had three 40-win seasons, eighteen 30-win seasons, and twenty-five 20-win seasons; and

WHEREAS, Bert Jenkins was selected as the National High School Basketball Coach of the Year in 1989 by the National High School Coaches Association; and

WHEREAS, Bert Jenkins is a superb teacher and he taught five classes of 11th grade English each day before going to the gym to coach basketball; and

WHEREAS, Bert Jenkins has earned the admiration and respect of his coaching profession; and

WHEREAS, Bert Jenkins was inducted into the Mississippi Association of Coaches Hall of Fame in 1981; and

WHEREAS, Bert Jenkins is a decorated World War II veteran and was severely wounded during the famed "Battle of the Bulge," losing a leg as a result of his injuries:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MISSISSIPPI STATE SENATE, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby congratulate and commend Bert Jenkins upon his induction into the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be presented to Bert Jenkins.
